Julie Barbeau

Light & optical phenomena

Very early in her artistic researches, Julie Barbeau turned to explore optical phenomena. Fascinated by light, an elusive material that yet governs all of our experience in the world, she immersed herself in explorations based on this observation. Having always been very curious about science and mathematics, the laws of physics and optics mark her exploration, which she chose to appropriate through the prism of art and textiles.

Embroidery as
an artistic medium

It was through haute couture that Julie Barbeau discovered the crafts world. With an initial artistic background in design and applied arts, she then learned embroidery in Paris. There, she discovered several workshops, where she worked occasionally. Soon, she decided to found her own textile workshop. Seduced by this know-how acquired in the world of luxury, she aspired to make her own artistic and contemporary identity dialogue with the traditional gestures of a very specific craftsmanship. She founded her eponymous studio in 2019.

textile field

Fagot de lin après l'arrachage manuel

Very committed to defend local network and transparency about the origins of objects that surround us, Julie Barbeau attaches paramount importance to the provenance of the materials she uses. 100% French linen, reclaimed cotton, French threads and sequins. The French territory has a rich textile sector, on which the designer bases all her artistic reflections.
